MDMA (3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine), the drug used illicitly as ecstasy, was first created completely by accident in 1912. It was briefly used in the medical field before recreational abuse lead to its barring.

MDMA causes a ton of problems. Also, MDMA is a derivative of MDA. MDA was the predecessor to MDMA and was quite widely used in the 60's and 70's.
