Strange Spiders

Postby GKOT » Thu Feb 17, 2011 2:38 pm

Hey. I found Educated Earth from that Gladiator spider video that was featured on Fark. I was just wondering if you guys have any other crazy arachnid videos/articles kicking around.

We've got all kinds of spiders for you arachnid lovers out there.

Here's 4 of the creepiest spider videos on the internet.

4. Giant Tarantula (Video)

The largest spider in the world is on the hunt. But is it as dangerous as it seems?

3. Timelapse: Spiders Spinning Webs (Video)

In this fascinating BBC clip, a couple of species of orb spider build their webs and catch prey. Also watch a clever (and sneaky) adaptation by one spider species.

2. Jumping Spider Mating Behaviour (Video)

A male jumping spider (in the family Salticidae) performs a song and dance routine to earn the interest of a female. This is one of the most bizarre videos on our site, and one I'm sure you'll enjoy :)

1. Jumping Spider Mimics Ants (Video)

Jumping spiders of the genus Myrmarachne lead a deceptive lifestyle. These spiders have gained their notoriety by the fact that they have evolved to look like ants.

It depends on how you look at it.

Spiders are creepy, true, but only because they're so alien from us. Their physiology is so vastly different from anything we know. They also play an important part in the ecosystem, providing pest control for the various insect species in their respective environment's, and in some cases, they eat lizards and birds too.

Scorpions are also arachnids, and related to the spider. For such little animals they have one hell of a punch - everyone knows how deadly scorpions can be, but spiders are up there too. It's hard not to be afraid of something that eats its prey by wrapping it up helplessly, then liquefying its innards and sucking them out.

They were all interesting! That Goliath spider is intimidating. One foot across! Remarkable.

It's appropriate time to make some plans for the long run and it's time to be happy. I've learn this put up and if I could I want to recommend you few attention-grabbing things or suggestions. Perhaps you can write next articles referring to this article. I desire to learn more issues about it!
